Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom, a working mom, or an empty-nester, using a planner can help you get more done, and prioritize what’s most important to you.
How A Planning Impacts Your Life
I started consistently using a planner when I was staying home with my twin boys.
Every day seemed like a blur, and I was never really sure what I did each day. (Sleep deprivation will do that to you!)
When I started using a planner, I could really see how I used my time.
Even though I didn’t have a lot of control over what I needed to do each day when my babies were young, it really helped my self-confidence to see on paper what I had done each day.
And when my friends came over and asked me what I did all day as a stay-at-home mom, I could SHOW them what my days looked like. 😉
If you’ve gotten out of the habit of using a planner, or if you’ve never used one before, I encourage you to give it a try.
It could end up helping you create more time, value your work more, and find ways to make your daily routines better.
Reasons Why Planning Should be Part of Your Routine
If you’ve never used a planner before, or if you’ve gotten out of the habit of using your planner, here are some reasons why you should make using a planner part of your daily routine.
- Having a time management system in place stops things from falling through the cracks. If you’re relying on post-its, notes in your phone, or even just your memory (even if it’s a really great memory) things are bound to get lost of forgotten. By using a planner, you’ll have a go-to place to store all of your information.

- Writing things down helps you remember. Something happens in our brains when we write something down that helps us commit things to memory better.
- When you have a planner, you can realistically plan out your time. If you’re really writing everything down and scheduling things, it’s harder to overestimate how much you can get done in a day.

- Planners reduce stress. Once you get in the habit of using your planner, you know you can rely on it. You don’t have to worry about forgetting something if you regularly check your planner use it consistently.
- Planners help you say no. When you can see exactly what you have scheduled, and what you need to do, it’s easier to say no to commitments that don’t align with you values. Planners help you be more intentional with your time.
- Planners can help you meet your goals. If you’re able to carve out time to work on projects that move you closer to your big goals, and schedule that time into your planner, you can use more of your time to important tasks vs. “urgent” tasks.
