Are you ready for spring cleaning? Are you wondering if it’s even possible to spring clean when your kiddos are young and needing lots of attention? Is your house so out-of-control that you don’t even know where to start? Spring cleaning for busy moms can be challenging, but it’s totally do-able if you break down the process into manageable steps!

Spring Cleaning for Busy Moms. Realistic spring cleaning tasks for moms that don't have a ton of time to dedicate to cleaning.

I hate cleaning (love organizing, hate cleaning!), but I’ve realized that our house feels so much more relaxed when it’s clean. Now that the days are getting longer, and we’re actually seeing the sun a bit more, I’m also able to see that our house could use a massive spring cleaning.

I just don’t want to do it.

So, instead of taking a weekend and cleaning like crazy, I’m going to do the cleaning projects in our home that will have the biggest impact. If you’re not so enthusiastic about cleaning, you can do the same thing!

design a home management plan that works for you

Spring Cleaning for Busy Moms Who Don’t Love Cleaning

  1. Start a cleaning routine. If you don’t have a routine for cleaning your house, this is the perfect time to start one. I try to do the following each day: load/unload dishwasher, sweep floors, clean off countertops, do one load of laundry. Each day of the week, I try even harder to do one of the following: vacuum, mop floors, clean bathrooms, dust, wash sheets. The cleaning doesn’t always happen, but having a plan helps. I got these ideas from Clean Mama.
  2. Pick two or three mini-projects that will make a big impact. Work on the things that have been annoying you, or things that are in areas of your home that you use every day. I am going to clean our baseboards and re-organize our pantry (again). I should also deep clean our laundry room because I spend huge amounts of time in there.
  3. Clean for short blocks of time. Thirty minutes seems to be a good amount of time for me to make progress, but not get too worn out.
  4. Focus is on progress, not perfection.
  5. Plan to be okay with interruptions. If you need to stop to fix a little one’s train tracks or give a hug, that’s okay.
  6. Motivate yourself with fun cleaning supplies. Sometimes a new set of nice-smelling cleaning supplies can be a great motivator. I like to order cleaning supplies from Grove Collaborative. Click here to get a Free Mrs. Meyer’s Hand Soap and $10 Credit from Grove.

As much as we talk about spring cleaning like it’s a chore, it doesn’t have to be. I try to think of it as a new beginning, an opportunity to make my home a cleaner, healthier and a less-chaotic place.

And when that doesn’t work, I bribe myself with chocolate.

Happy Spring!
