Planning a big trip? Today's simple tip is for you!
To organize your travel documents and information for your trip, use a slash pocket {pic below}. I first read about using slash pockets when I read Lisa Woodruff's book about creating a Sunday Basket for paper organization. Slash pockets are thin plastic folders that you can use in a binder, or as a stand-alone folder. They're nice, because they're usually see-through, and they're very thin.
As you plan your trip, print the things you'll want to reference as you travel, and put them in your slash pocket. I like to keep at least the following in trip slash pockets:
- Airplane tickets
- Hotel reservations
- Tickets for events
- Maps and directions
- Important phone numbers
Remember to also bring your frequent flier numbers and rewards numbers. You may need them as you're traveling.
It's also helpful to write out a rough schedule of what you'd like to do on each day of your trip. That way you can make sure you're able to do everything you wanted to while you travel, and you won't double-book activities.
As you're traveling, you can add important items to your slash pocket. I like to keep things like receipts, maps, rental car contracts, and even hotel wi-fi passwords in our slash pocket.
When you return from your trip, you'll have records of all of the things you did if you want to use them for a scrapbook or memory box.
